Inglewood political contests intensify ahead of November election

Political tensions are rising in Inglewood ahead of the November 3 election. City Councilwoman Gloria Gray is facing challenges for her seat on the West Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors. Gray has faced allegations of violating state law regarding incompatible offices, as her roles on the City Council and the water board may overlap. While legal counsel suggested her dual positions could violate Government Code 1099, the Los Angeles County District Attorney has declined to seek her formal removal. Carol Raines-Brown has qualified to challenge Gray for the water board seat.

In the race for Inglewood mayor, candidate Fre’Drisha Dixon has accused opponent Raina Carrillo of using a racial slur during a conversation two years ago. Dixon suggested the incident indicated Carrillo is anti-Black. Carrillo, who works for a community violence prevention nonprofit, has denied the allegations, stating they are false and emphasizing her commitment to bringing diverse communities together.
