Ingrid Bergman: The life and career of the Swedish cinema icon

Ingrid Bergman (1915–1982) was a highly acclaimed Swedish actress who became one of the most significant stars of 20th-century cinema, winning three Academy Awards, two Emmys, and a Tony Award.

Her career spanned both European and American film industries, featuring iconic roles in classics such as ‘Casablanca’ (1942), ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ (1943), and ‘Gaslight’ (1944), the latter of which earned her her first Oscar. She also collaborated with renowned directors including Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Rossellini.

Bergman was noted for her naturalistic acting style and her refusal to conform to Hollywood beauty standards, such as undergoing cosmetic changes.
