Inha University and UMassD partner for marine science Ph.D. dual degrees
Inha University and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMassD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement a Ph.D. dual degree program in marine science. Scheduled to begin in the first semester of the 2027 academic year, this initiative marks the first dual degree program of its kind in the field of marine science at a South Korean university.
The program is linked to the ‘Marine Blue Tech Future Leader Training Project,’ a national R&D human resource development initiative launched by the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries through the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST). The project is set to run for five years starting in 2025.
Under the agreement, selected students will study for at least one year at each institution, receiving joint supervision from faculty at both universities. Upon fulfilling the credit, examination, and dissertation requirements of both institutions, students will earn doctoral degrees from both Inha University and UMassD. The partnership will also encompass joint research, academic exchanges for professors and researchers, and the expansion of international research networks.
