INIT acquires majority stake in Norway’s Applied Autonomy

German public transport specialist INIT has acquired a 67.74% majority stake in the Norwegian technology company Applied Autonomy. The acquisition, effective as of October 1, 2026, aims to expand the international reach of Applied Autonomy’s xFlow platform.

Based in Kongsberg, Applied Autonomy develops manufacturer-independent software designed to monitor and control autonomous vehicle fleets. The xFlow platform enables remote supervision, technical oversight, and real-time coordination of autonomous vehicles, facilitating their integration into existing public transport and logistics operations. By combining xFlow with INIT’s MOBILE-ITCS control system, the companies intend to manage mixed fleets containing both autonomous and conventional vehicles.

The technology has already seen practical applications in Europe. In Stavanger, Norway, xFlow is used to operate the continent’s only autonomous bus in regular line service without an onboard safety driver. Additionally, autonomous buses have been in use in Rotterdam since 2025.
