Injured Eurasian eagle-owl rescued on Brač island

An injured Eurasian eagle-owl, a female named Zoja, was rescued on the island of Brač after striking a fence in Sutivan. The bird was discovered in the yard of the Pečar family, who secured the animal in a cage and alerted authorities.

A nature warden from the public institution ‘More i krš’ coordinated the rescue and transported the owl to a specialized wildlife shelter in Šibenik. Zoja is currently under professional supervision for treatment and care. Once she has fully recovered, plans are in place to release her back into her natural habitat on Brač. The Eurasian eagle-owl is the largest European owl and holds strictly protected status in Croatia.
