Inland natural swimming spots offer relief from Madrid summer heat

Residents of Madrid are increasingly seeking natural alternatives to crowded coastal beaches and municipal pools to escape summer heat. Two notable inland destinations offer relief through river and lake landscapes.

In Estremera, located on the border between the Community of Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, the Los Villares area on the Tajo River serves as a popular natural swimming spot. This location is equipped with amenities including parking, showers, toilets, a playground, and a kiosk. It is noted for being pet-friendly and offering shaded areas.

In the province of Ciudad Real, the town of Ruidera provides access to the Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park. This protected area features 15 interconnected lakes characterized by emerald-colored water and waterfalls. Visitors can engage in water sports such as kayaking and canoeing, or explore hiking and cycling routes through local forests.
