Admiral Carlos Manuel Bandala González has stepped down as the head of the National Institute of Migration (INM) office in Quintana Roo amid an investigation into alleged irregularities regarding migratory documents.

The investigation reportedly involves the review of approximately 935 files, primarily concerning citizens from Cuba and Venezuela. Allegations include the potential misuse of family ties to facilitate immigration procedures and the illegal charging of fees for services, with some amounts reaching up to 5,000 USD. Authorities are also examining whether these irregularities involve human trafficking, specifically regarding files involving female minors.

In a related development, INM Commissioner Francisco Garduño Yáñez visited the region to oversee operations and supervise the installation of the new representative. During his visit, Garduño Yáñez inspected the automated E-Gates at Cancún International Airport to ensure efficient and rights-respecting processing for international travelers.
