Inmate Ardjan Malasi dies under unclear circumstances in Fier Prison

Ardjan Malasi, a convicted inmate, has died under unclear circumstances at the Fier Prison in Albania. Preliminary suspicions suggest the cause of death may be a cerebral hemorrhage or an aortic rupture, though a final determination awaits an examination by the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Malasi had been serving an eight-year sentence for money laundering within a structured criminal group, a sentence finalized in June 2026. He had been in custody since October 2023 and had approximately three years and ten months remaining on his sentence. His case was linked to a broader investigation involving the former director of the Durrës Cadastre, Rajmonda Dashi, and the Ramaj brothers regarding the laundering of 1.2 million euros through fictitious sales.
