Romanian prisoner continues sexual extortion from Codlea penitentiary

A 33‑year‑old man from Cluj, incarcerated at Codlea prison, has been sent back to trial for sexual extortion and computer‑related offenses. Investigators say he contacted more than 70 women from behind bars, using a ruse that he had access to their old mobile phones and could publish intimate images if they did not comply. He demanded access to their online accounts to obtain further compromising material.

The court noted that the offender is not motivated by monetary gain but by personal gratification, describing him as a sexual predator. Legal experts highlighted that current Romanian law does not allow for significant sentence extensions, potentially limiting additional time he will serve. Authorities warned of a high risk of recidivism given his ability to continue the crime while imprisoned.
