Inmate attacks two prison agents with scissors in Anamuya
An inmate at the CCR-XIV Anamuya correctional center in Higüey attacked two penitentiary agents with a pair of scissors on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred while service supervisor Rafael Guerrero and security subdirector Alfredo Eusebio Zorrilla were supervising a softball field prior to a game between inmates.
According to the Dirección General de Servicios Penitenciarios y Correccionales (DGSPC), the inmate, identified as Jorge Luís Jiménez Vásquez, used a pair of scissors broken into two pieces to strike the officers. Guerrero sustained stabs to the lower abdomen, including injuries to the small intestine, colon, and stomach, requiring surgery. Eusebio Zorrilla was wounded in the arm and left side.
Jiménez Vásquez attempted to attack two other supervisors but was unsuccessful. He subsequently barricaded himself in the corridors leading to pavilions C and D. Security agents eventually neutralized him following a struggle, during which the inmate sustained a head wound and a possible wrist fracture. Both injured agents were transported to a medical center for surgical intervention.
