Inmate found dead at Complejo Penitenciario Biobío

An inmate, identified as Wilson Eduardo Castro Tapia, was found dead on Saturday, October 17, at the Complejo Penitenciario Biobío, also known as El Manzano, in Concepción.

According to an official statement from Gendarmería, service personnel discovered the body in the prison hospital sector. Authorities noted the presence of a handmade ligature that appeared to have been used as a suspension element. Preliminary findings from the institution suggest there are no immediate indications of third-party involvement in the death.

The Public Ministry has ordered an investigation to establish the exact circumstances and cause of death. Gendarmería has activated internal protocols and is cooperating with specialized teams to secure the scene. The body will undergo examination by the Servicio Médico Legal (SML) to provide further forensic evidence for the ongoing investigation.
