Inmate in Tartagal burns mattress after drug smuggling attempt

In Tartagal, Argentina, an inmate at the 3rd Police Station set fire to his mattress in protest after authorities intercepted an attempt to smuggle drugs into his cell. The incident occurred during the scheduled food delivery period.

Following the incident, a woman identified as the inmate's partner was detained by the Drug Division. Although she claimed she was not responsible for the food container where the substances were found, she remains under judicial investigation for the attempted smuggling. The inmate was transferred to a public hospital for medical evaluation after police used a fire extinguisher to control the blaze.
