Inmate incidents reported in Guatemala and Paraguay prisons
Two separate incidents involving inmates have been reported in Guatemala and Paraguay.
In Guatemala, Felipe de Jesús Hernández, a 67-year-old inmate serving a 76-year sentence for the sexual abuse of his daughters, was found dead at the Pavón Model Rehabilitation Farm in Fraijanes. Prison staff discovered him suspended by his neck in a cell during the morning. Authorities recovered a blue rope at the scene, and the Public Ministry is investigating the circumstances of his death.
In Paraguay, an inmate with nursing credentials provided emergency assistance to Hugo Javier González at the Esperanza Industrial Penitentiary Unit. The inmate testified to the Public Ministry that he responded to a guard's call and found González experiencing convulsions and nasal bleeding. The nurse reported stabilizing the individual in a lateral position to prevent injury before he was evacuated to a health center.
