Brazil sees cold front bringing frost warnings to South and Southeast

A cold front moving across Brazil has caused temperatures to drop sharply in the Southern states, prompting frost warnings in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and parts of Paraná. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued yellow alerts for the risk of frost and low temperatures, with minimums near 0 °C in some high‑land areas.

In the Southeast, the front has brought showers, thunderstorms and a risk of hail, especially in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, where granitic storms are forecast for dozens of municipalities. In Minas Gerais, Inmet warned that 152 cities could see thunderstorms with hail, strong winds up to 60 km/h and rain accumulations of up to 50 mm.

Additional alerts include intense‑rain warnings for 50 municipalities in Rio Grande do Norte, and a moderate landslide risk for Ubatuba (São Paulo) due to heavy rain totals of up to 73 mm in 24 hours. Overall, the weather pattern brings colder, drier conditions to the South, volatile precipitation and hail potential to the Southeast, and continued rain activity across other regions of Brazil.
