Brazil weather: Inmet forecasts heat and irregular rain for October

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) predicts that October in Brazil will be characterized by above-average temperatures and irregular rainfall distribution across various regions. Significant temperature deviations are expected in the Center-West and Southeast, with areas in Goiás, the Federal District, and Minas Gerais potentially seeing averages more than 2°C above normal. Some regions may experience temperatures exceeding 40°C.

Rainfall patterns will vary significantly. The South, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, and southeastern Minas Gerais are expected to see above-average accumulation. Conversely, parts of the North, Northeast, and Center-West may experience below-average precipitation. In Rio Grande do Sul, intense rainfall is forecasted, with some areas potentially receiving up to 200mm above the norm.

These weather patterns are expected to impact agriculture. In Mato Grosso and Goiás, the combination of heat and irregular rain may hinder soil moisture recovery and delay summer crop sowing. In contrast, more frequent rain in Mato Grosso do Sul could favor soil moisture and initial crop development. Authorities have also issued heatwave alerts for several states, advising caution regarding dehydration and heat-related health risks.
