Inönü University held a specialized training program for academic administrators titled ‘Substance Abuse Awareness on Campus.’ The session was part of the university’s Managerial Leadership Training Program and took place at the Turgut Özal Congress and Culture Center.

During the training, Associate Professor Arzu Çalışkan Demir highlighted the prevalence of substance use among adolescents and young adults, noting that alcohol, tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and nicotine pouches are increasingly common in university settings. Demir emphasized that the institutional approach should prioritize safe, non-judgmental communication to build trust with students, rather than focusing on punitive measures or detection.

Associate Professor Esra Porgalı Zayman addressed the legal, ethical, and institutional dimensions of addiction. She stated that the university’s primary goal is to keep students within the academic system by protecting their health and treating addiction as a chronic medical condition rather than a moral failing.
