Innoplant develops lunar agriculture technology in Granada
In Alfacar, a municipality in Granada, the company Innoplant is conducting research on how to cultivate plants on the Moon. Supported by the European LEADER rural development program, the company has established an experimental farm and a specialized agro-food research laboratory.
Innoplant is a participant in the Green Moon Project, an initiative focused on space agriculture aimed at developing future solutions for the field. The project highlights how rural entrepreneurship can drive high-tech innovation when supported by local development organizations and funding.
Similar rural development strategies have been applied in other regions, such as the Jerte Valley in Extremadura, where the LEADER program helped transform cherry production into a broader economic driver through agro-food diversification, rural tourism, and the promotion of natural heritage.
