Innoptus Solar Team Extends Lead in American Solar Car Race

The Belgian Innoptus Solar Team, composed of engineering students from KU Leuven, strengthened its position on the fifth day of the Electrek American Solar Challenge. By executing a tactical extra 38‑kilometre loop and benefiting from penalties imposed on rival teams, the Belgians increased their lead over the Delft team to about 38 km.

Despite a 12‑mile penalty for briefly exceeding the speed limit, the team maintained its advantage as the race moves toward Amarillo, Texas, with three days remaining. Logistics manager Bernhard Klykens highlighted the crew’s ability to capitalize on the Missouri terrain and the timing of penalties to secure the lead.
