Innovation and intellectual property experts discuss development in Ecuador and Chile
Experts from academia, public management, and the private sector recently gathered to discuss the role of intellectual property and innovation in driving economic and social development in Ecuador. The forum, organized by the Industria Farmacéutica de Investigación (IFI) in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA), focused on using intangible assets as strategic tools to stimulate knowledge generation and address social and environmental challenges.
In Chile, discussions have centered on the challenges facing Science-Based Technology Companies (EBCT). Experts highlight the significant gap between theoretical academic research and applied research that meets industrial needs. While basic science seeks to understand phenomena, EBCTs focus on converting laboratory findings into sustainable business models to transfer technology to the productive sector, a process noted for its high complexity in execution.
