Innovations in electric heavy-duty transport receive industry awards
Innovations in electrified heavy-duty transport have received significant industry recognition. Kögel Trailer GmbH won the International Trailer Award 2027 in the ‘Chassis’ category for its KÖGEL LIGHT PLUS. This electrically optimized trailer features a redesigned chassis geometry that shortens the distance between the kingpin and the first axle by 300 millimeters. This adjustment optimizes weight distribution for electric tractors, potentially increasing payload capacity by up to 4.3 tons.
In a separate development, the evTrailer2 research project was honored with the Sustainability Award in Automotive 2025 in the ‘Open Innovation’ category. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the consortium—including representatives from TU Darmstadt, CuroCon GmbH, and Sono Motors GmbH—is developing battery-electric semi-trailers. The project aims to achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption for heavy goods vehicles, targeting CO2 reductions of 20 to 40 percent by 2030.
