Innsbruck child bicycle collision with car prompts police appeal for witnesses

On 4 July 2026 at around 17:30, a 59‑year‑old Spanish driver was traveling south on Südtiroler Platz in Innsbruck, Austria. After briefly stopping at a pedestrian refuge to let walkers cross, he continued at walking speed. An approximately eight‑year‑old boy riding his bicycle on the sidewalk turned into the street just before the car, struck the vehicle’s front, and fell. The driver stopped, attempted to assist, but the child rode away from the scene. Police have not confirmed whether the boy was injured.

Authorities are seeking witnesses and ask the child’s guardians or anyone with information to contact the Verkehrsinspektion Wilten at 0591 33 75 91.
