Innu Nikamu Festival 2026 readies Maliotenam venue for The Offspring and more

The 42nd Innu Nikamu Indigenous music festival is set to open Thursday, July 16, at the former Maliotenam boarding‑school site in Quebec. Organisers have fast‑tracked construction of two stages, dozens of kiosks, sound and lighting rigs, and a mobile‑app platform created by Innu Tshinanu Alliances Conseils. Volunteers and staff are working around the clock to finish the build before the week‑long event.

Festival director Normand Junior Thirnish‑Pilot emphasizes the alcohol‑free policy, noting it honors survivors of residential schools and creates a safe environment for families. The program blends Innu‑language performances by local artists with international acts such as California punk band The Offspring, continuing a tradition of featuring well‑known groups alongside Indigenous talent. A fashion parade showcasing creations by Innu designers will also debut.

Transportation between Uashat‑Sept‑Îles and the festival grounds has been arranged to ease parking concerns, and organisers expect thousands of attendees from across the province and beyond.
