INPEC official assassinated at gas station in Cúcuta
Bryan Rangel Saavedra, an official of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC), was assassinated at a gas station in the Prados del Este neighborhood of Cúcuta, Norte de Santander. The attack occurred while Saavedra was refueling his vehicle after completing his shift at the Modelo prison.
Authorities are investigating the motive, though they have not ruled out a connection to his duties in prison custody. The Cúcuta Mayor's Office has announced a reward of up to 20 million pesos for information leading to the capture of those responsible. Justice Minister Iván Cancino condemned the killing, stating that the government will pursue those responsible to prevent the intimidation of prison system workers.
Police have secured the scene and are reviewing security camera footage from the station and surrounding businesses to identify the attackers and their escape route.
