Inpec officials defend conduct after Vallenato party at Itagüí prison

Officials of Colombia's Instituto Nacional Penitenciario y Carcelario (Inpec) gave their account of the controversial Vallenato party held inside the Itagüí prison. They said they acted according to established procedures and claimed they were unaware of how artists, visitors and unauthorized equipment entered the facility. The incident, captured on video, showed live music by singer Nelson Velásquez and dozens of participants, prompting a disciplinary investigation. Inpec has imposed administrative measures on several staff members and continues to investigate the entry of sound equipment, beverages and other items used during the celebration. The authorities will determine whether any disciplinary, administrative or criminal responsibility applies.
