INPEX replaces bp as operator of Agung I and II oil and gas blocks
INPEX has taken over as the operator for the Agung I and Agung II oil and gas exploration blocks offshore Bali, following the approval of a partial participating interest transfer from bp. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed the transfer agreement on September 7, 2026, resulting in a 50/50 ownership split between bp and INPEX.
Following the transfer, the companies have agreed to accelerate exploration activities, which include conducting 2D seismic surveys covering 285 km and 3D seismic surveys covering 3,650 km. Local authorities, including the Governor of Bali, have expressed support for the project. To respect local customs, a traditional ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Bali sea on September 24, 2026, before the seismic surveys commence.
