Inquest held into death of inmate Robert Cooper
A coronial inquest is underway in Dubbo regarding the death of Robert Cooper, a 52-year-old Wiradjuri man who died following a suspected drug overdose in his cell.
During the proceedings, a correctional officer who provided initial first aid offered condolences to the family of Mr. Cooper, who was serving a 13-year sentence. The officer expressed regret that more could not have been done to save him.
Mr. Cooper collapsed at the Metropolitan Special Programs Centre (MSPC) and was transported to the Prince of Wales Hospital, where he never regained consciousness. Medical experts determined the cause of death to be a narcotics-induced brain injury. The inquest has heard evidence from corrections staff, justice health nurses, and MSPC inmates.
