Inquests detail deaths of two young students in UK
Two separate inquests in the United Kingdom have detailed the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two young students who took their own lives.
At Richard Huish College in Somerset, 17-year-old Lauren Jackson died in February after hanging herself in a school restroom cubicle. The inquest heard that Jackson had struggled with her mental health throughout her teenage years. Despite these struggles, she had been looking forward to her future, including driving lessons and university visits. Following the incident, she suffered a hypoxic brain injury and passed away two days later in the hospital.
In Dorset, an inquest examined the death of 12-year-old Angel Karanja, who was found dead in her bedroom in March. Her father testified that she had become ‘almost nocturnal’ due to excessive phone use, spending much of her time on YouTube and Minecraft. The inquest noted that Karanja had found the transition to Cornerstone Academy difficult, with one friend reporting she had said she would ‘rather be in hell than at school’. While police found no evidence of cyberbullying on her devices, a friend mentioned she had been bullied during a sleepover.
