INS Sudarshini arrives in Alexandria for Lokayan 26 expedition
The Indian Navy sailing vessel INS Sudarshini arrived at the Egyptian port of Alexandria on September 23 as part of its 10-month Lokayan 26 transoceanic training expedition. This visit marks the ship’s second arrival in the Mediterranean port during its deployment.
The three-masted barque began its voyage from Kochi on January 20 and is expected to cover approximately 22,000 nautical miles, visiting 18 ports across 13 countries. During the mission, the vessel has traversed the Arabian Sea, Red Sea, and Mediterranean, including a transit of the Suez Canal and a first-ever Atlantic crossing to Antigua.
Upon arrival, the ship was received by Rear Admiral Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Commander of the Alexandria Naval Base, and representatives from the Indian Embassy. The port call is intended to facilitate professional exchanges, courtesy calls, and cross-deck visits to strengthen maritime ties between India and Egypt.
