INS to begin 2027 marchamo collection with new digital stickers
The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) has announced that collection for the 2027 'marchamo' (vehicle circulation rights) will begin on November 2. This follows the approval of the Mandatory Automobile Insurance (SOA) tariffs by the Superintendencia General de Seguros (Sugese).
A major technological update for this period is the introduction of a digital sticker for vehicles equipped with windshields. These new digital labels are designed to last up to 10 years, meaning while owners must still pay the annual circulation fee, they will not necessarily need to replace the physical sticker every year. INS Executive President Gabriela Chacón Fernández confirmed that the new labels have already passed quality controls both at the factory and during local testing in Costa Rica.
Additionally, the circulation rights will be available in a digital format to streamline the process for drivers. For the time being, motorcycles will continue to use the traditional marchamo system.
