Insecurity raises electronic production costs in Mexico by 25 percent

Insecurity in Mexico's manufacturing states has increased operating costs for the electronics and semiconductor industries by up to 25 percent, according to the National Chamber of the Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology Industry (Canieti).

Companies are being forced to allocate significant resources to protect high-value goods during transport to borders. These security measures include satellite tracking, GPS monitoring, and the use of security convoys or patrol escorts to prevent organized crime from stealing merchandise.

Enrique Yamuni, former president of Canieti, warned that these rising costs and security risks are threatening new investments in the sector. While manufacturing exports have seen significant growth, the necessity of investing in logistics security to mitigate theft remains a critical challenge for the industry.
