Insomniac Games develops Marvel’s Wolverine for PlayStation 5
Insomniac Games is developing Marvel’s Wolverine for the PlayStation 5, moving away from the Spider-Man franchise to focus on a more brutal and emotional narrative. The story begins three decades before the main events, following a young Logan assisted by Nathaniel Essex, before jumping forward to a more weary and solitary Wolverine.
The plot involves Logan attempting to rescue Essex from Trask Industries, only to uncover a conspiracy involving the kidnapping and experimentation on mutants. Art director Gavin Goulden noted that the development process focused on translating comic book mythology into a unique video game narrative rather than imitating cinematic adaptations.
This release is part of a broader trend in the gaming industry where digital entertainment is becoming a primary platform for superhero storytelling. Other upcoming projects in the genre include an Iron Man single-player game by EA Motive and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a collaboration between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arc System Works.
