Insomniac's Marvel Wolverine Game Faces Criticism Over Violence and Rating Options
Insomniac Games unveiled its upcoming Marvel‑licensed third‑person action‑adventure, Marvel’s Wolverine, during a PlayStation State of Play showcase. The preview highlighted the character’s brutal claw combat, stealth takedowns and physics‑based blood effects, prompting a wave of online criticism from some gamers who argued that stealth and visible blood were inappropriate for the character.
The studio clarified that the game is mature‑rated but includes extensive accessibility options, allowing players to disable dynamic blood, dismemberment and other graphic content. Voice talent includes Liam McIntyre, and the title is set for a September 15, 2026 release on PlayStation 5. Despite the backlash, Insomniac expects strong sales, noting that many of the vocal critics are themselves likely to purchase the game.
The game is a standalone story not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
