Insomniac’s narrative director defends Wolverine characterization
Walt Williams, the narrative director for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine, has addressed player discourse regarding the characterization of Logan. Following the game's release, some critics have argued that the portrayal of the character is too ‘soft’ and lacks sufficient rage.
Speaking on the Low Power Mode podcast, Williams explained the creative decision to focus on the emotional depth of the relationship between Logan and Sabretooth. He noted that the team aimed to move beyond a simple antagonistic ‘alpha male’ archetype to explore themes of loss and yearning. Williams described Sabretooth as a ‘dark mirror’ of Logan, intended to help players empathize with the character's emotional journey by showing that both characters experience deep feelings of loss, even if they express them differently.
