Insomniac's Wolverine Game Removes X‑Men, Chooses Linear Global Story

Insomniac Games confirmed that its upcoming Marvel Wolverine title will not feature the X‑Men. Creative director Marcus Smith stated, "The X‑Men are not in our game, and where we do start is Logan has been around for a while. He’s been part of a team called Team X," signalling a shift to a different mutant group that differs from the traditional X‑Men roster.

The studio also explained that the game will forego an open‑world format in favor of a linear, single‑player experience. Game director Mike Daly said the design "no sandbox, no open world — just a focused, story‑driven experience" to reflect Wolverine’s wandering nature. Gameplay will emphasize close‑quarters combat, stealth, and globe‑spanning locations, offering side activities and collectibles without the expansive city sandbox used in Insomniac’s Spider‑Man titles.
