INSSSEP intensifies prevention against telephone and virtual scams
The Instituto de Seguridad Social, Seguros y Préstamos (INSSSEP) has launched a territorial prevention and awareness plan following an increase in fraudulent activities targeting its members. Scammers are reportedly using the institution’s name and official imagery via phone calls, WhatsApp, and social media to deceive both active and retired beneficiaries.
According to official Germán Landriel, criminals pose as institution representatives to offer fake reimbursements, prizes, or health-related assistance. These tactics are used to steal confidential information, such as ID numbers and financial data, which allows perpetrators to drain bank accounts or take out unauthorized loans in the victims' names.
INSSSEP officials emphasize that the organization already possesses member records and will never request passwords, ID numbers, or financial details through digital channels. To protect its more than 270,000 beneficiaries, the institution has established an anti-fraud commission and trained staff across more than 60 delegations to assist members in verifying procedures or filing reports.
