Insta360 launches Luna Ultra 8K gimbal camera amid DJI US lawsuit
Insta360 has unveiled the Luna Ultra, a premium handheld gimbal camera developed with Leica. The device combines a 1‑inch 50‑megapixel main sensor and a secondary telephoto sensor, offering 8K video at 30 fps, Dolby Vision, 10‑bit I‑Log, and up to 14 stops of dynamic range. It also supports 200 MP panoramic photos, a detachable 2‑inch OLED touch screen, 47 GB internal storage, and up to four hours of battery life. The Luna Ultra is priced at US$769 and is marketed to creators seeking professional‑grade stabilization and Leica‑branded optics.
Simultaneously, DJI has filed two lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging that the Luna Ultra copies the design and technology of DJI’s Osmo Pocket series. DJI seeks a permanent injunction on sales of the Luna Ultra in the United States and monetary damages for alleged patent and trade‑dress infringement.
