Instagram head Adam Mosseri predicts rising AI frustration
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has predicted that public frustration and anger regarding artificial intelligence will continue to increase over the coming years. Speaking on ‘The Colin and Samir Show’ podcast, Mosseri identified several drivers for this growing sentiment, including concerns over job displacement, the use of creative works for model training without permission, and a general fear of being left behind by technological shifts.
Mosseri noted that while anxiety is particularly acute within creative industries, the discontent is not limited to professionals or younger demographics. He highlighted challenges regarding content quality, noting the difficulty in distinguishing high-quality AI-assisted work from low-effort “AI slop.”
Regarding platform policy, Mosseri stated that Instagram does not automatically lower the ranking of AI-generated content. However, the platform has implemented measures such as labeling AI-generated profiles to improve transparency. He emphasized that while the platform is working to address misleading synthetic content and deepfakes, banning AI content entirely is not a practical solution.
