Instagram is implementing new transparency measures to address the rise of hyper-realistic AI-generated influencers. The platform is replacing its existing “AI creator” label with a more specific “AI-generated profile” tag. This new designation is intended for accounts that feature a persona created through artificial intelligence rather than a real human being.

To enforce this, Instagram will penalize accounts that use AI-generated personas without applying the appropriate label. These accounts may face reduced algorithmic reach, meaning their content will no longer be recommended to non-followers via the Reels or Explore tabs. The company stated that the move follows user feedback regarding profiles that appear to be real people but are actually synthetic.

The policy specifically targets accounts built around artificial identities. It does not affect creators who use AI tools for routine tasks such as photo editing, caption generation, or graphic design. Users who believe they have been incorrectly flagged can appeal the decision through their Account Status.
