Instagram introduces ‘First Draft’ for faster Reels editing

Instagram has introduced a new feature called ‘First Draft’ designed to streamline the creation of Reels. The tool automatically processes selected video clips by trimming unnecessary pauses and joining the most interesting segments into a preliminary version of a video.

This automated process can produce an initial draft in less than 10 seconds, allowing creators to bypass the time-consuming task of manually reviewing and cutting footage. While the tool provides a starting point, it does not replace traditional editing; users retain the ability to re-edit clips, change their order, add or remove segments, and undo changes.

Currently, the ‘First Draft’ feature is being rolled out for iPhone users. It can be accessed directly through the Instagram camera or via the Reels gallery after selecting multiple video clips. This update is part of a broader effort by Instagram to provide more integrated tools for creators, reducing the need to switch to external editing applications.
