Instagram tests ‘Read-Only Mode’ to prevent accidental interactions
Instagram is internally testing a new feature called ‘Read-Only Mode,’ designed to allow users to browse profiles and posts without the risk of accidental interactions. When activated, the mode disables the ability to like posts, leave comments, send direct messages, or follow new accounts.
The feature is expected to be part of a paid subscription service known as ‘Instagram Plus.’ While the mode prevents accidental engagement with other users, it does not provide complete anonymity, as user activities are still visible to the platform itself. Additionally, users will be unable to view Stories while in this mode.
Instagram has confirmed that internal testing is underway, but the official launch date and the full list of eligible users have not yet been determined. The move is seen as part of the platform's effort to increase its subscription-based revenue.
