Instagram launches official app for Apple TV

Instagram has released a dedicated application for Apple TV, allowing users to watch Reels, long-form videos, and live broadcasts on large screens. The app, which appeared on the App Store around October 23, 2026, requires tvOS 26.0 or later and is compatible with both Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models.

This launch is part of Meta’s broader strategy to expand Instagram’s presence into the living room, following previous rollouts on Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, and Samsung smart TVs. The Apple TV interface is optimized for big-screen viewing, featuring interest-based Reels channels and the ability to resume video playback across devices.

Simultaneously, Instagram is testing a new feature called ‘Features’ to compete more directly with YouTube. This function allows creators to upload horizontal videos up to 90 minutes long, such as podcasts and comedy specials. The platform is also testing ‘Series’ for episodic content and ‘micro-dramas’ to capture longer viewing times and shift user habits from individual mobile scrolling to shared household viewing experiences.
