Instagram updates visual identity with new wordmark

Instagram has updated its visual identity for the first time in over a decade by introducing a new wordmark. While the platform retains its iconic camera symbol, the typography used for the name has been significantly redesigned to create a cleaner, more modern appearance.

Instagram director Adam Mosseri stated the change aims to make the corporate image more modern while referencing the simplicity and craftsmanship that originally characterized the brand. Designer Jasmine Probst added that the new typography is intended to evoke individuality and promote user creativity and self-expression.

The redesign has sparked debate among users on social media regarding legibility, with some commenters jokingly suggesting the new lettering makes the name appear as ‘Instagzam’.
