Installatörsföretagen defends discounts in Swedish construction sector
Installatörsföretagen has responded to criticisms regarding discounts within the Swedish construction industry. The organization argues that discounts do not necessarily increase construction costs and can actually contribute to lower prices for both housing and infrastructure projects.
Addressing concerns raised by the Swedish Competition Authority (Konkurrensverket) regarding price transparency, the organization suggests that cost issues stem from how procurement is structured rather than the existence of discounts. They note that when material costs are not competitively tendered during the initial procurement phase, costs can become unpredictable for the buyer.
To mitigate this, Installatörsföretagen recommends that buyers utilize basket procurement methods, where fixed unit prices are agreed upon for a wide range of products. This approach allows material costs to be competitively tendered even when the exact products required are not known at the start of the project.
