Instinct AI assistant triggers Resy lockout during reservation attempt
Personal AI assistants are increasingly being used to automate complex tasks, such as securing restaurant reservations. In a recent instance, New York venture capitalist J. C. Bahr-de Stefano used the AI assistant Instinct to attempt to book a table at the West Village steakhouse 4 Charles Prime Rib.
During the attempt, the Instinct bot sent hundreds of requests per hour to the reservation platform Resy. This high volume of automated activity led Resy to identify the activity as bot-driven, resulting in Bahr-de Stefano being locked out of his account. Resy stated that the platform does not permit unapproved third-party bots or agents to independently access or interact with its system.
Instinct, which recently raised $350 million, belongs to an emerging category of digital personal assistants. These apps allow users to provide credentials, such as email and credit card information, to perform tasks like managing calendars, making medical appointments, or finding housing.
