AI startups Instinct and ElevenLabs see massive valuation surges

The artificial intelligence sector is seeing significant capital movement, highlighted by Instinct raising $1 billion in Series C funding at a $10 billion valuation. Led by Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Coatue, the San Francisco-based startup is developing personal AI agents capable of performing autonomous real-world tasks such as booking travel, making restaurant reservations, and ordering groceries via phone and computer.

However, Instinct faces regulatory hurdles in Europe. Under the EU AI Act, systems interacting directly with humans must identify themselves as AI, a requirement that may impact the company's autonomous calling capabilities. Additionally, some users have expressed dissatisfaction with the company's new 'Instinct Selections' feature, which provides unsolicited product recommendations.

In the voice AI space, ElevenLabs has reached a $22 billion valuation following a $300 million tender offer. This secondary market transaction allowed employees and early investors to sell shares, doubling the company's valuation from its $11 billion mark in February. ElevenLabs provides synthetic voice technology used by major corporations like Deutsche Telekom and Cisco.

Other notable funding includes SiMa. ai raising $150 million at a $1.45 billion valuation to develop physical AI chips for robotics and autonomous systems, and General Intuition securing $220 million at a $6.2 billion valuation to create synthetic video footage for AI training.
