Institut Curie researchers develop tumor-on-a-chip technology
Researchers at the Institut Curie are utilizing tumor-on-a-chip technology to advance personalized medicine for breast cancer. This microfluidic method involves creating miniaturized models that reconstruct key elements of a patient's tumor microenvironment, including interactions between cancer cells, immune cells, and fibroblasts within a collagen matrix.
By using these controlled, three-dimensional environments, scientists can test how specific tumor models respond to various drugs in a laboratory setting. While not yet used for routine clinical treatment selection, the technology provides a way to observe how different parameters affect tumor behavior and drug sensitivity.
