Institute for Family Studies report identifies barriers to marriage for young men

A report from the Institute for Family Studies, titled ‘America’s Demoralized Men Part II’, identifies various obstacles preventing young American men from achieving milestones such as marriage and parenthood. The study, which surveyed 2,000 men aged 18 to 29, found that many feel a sense of failure or powerlessness due to a mismatch between their life aspirations and their current reality.

Key findings indicate that many young men struggle with inadequate income, limited educational opportunities, and difficulty finding romantic partners. The report also highlights the impact of digital habits, noting that 70% of respondents use social media multiple times daily, 43% watch pornography at least several times a week, and nearly 40% report suffering from depression.

Research suggests a correlation between specific screen-related activities and mental health. Men who regularly engage in online gambling or pornography are more likely to report loneliness, distress, and feelings of failure compared to those primarily using social media or gaming. The data suggests a potential feedback loop where these digital compulsions and feelings of distress reinforce one another.
