Institute of Fruit Growing in Čačak prepares for autumn planting season
The Institute of Fruit Growing in Čačak, Serbia, is preparing for the upcoming autumn planting season. Dr. Darko Jevremović, the Director of the Institute, noted that current soil conditions are highly favorable due to good moisture levels and recent rainfall.
Plum remains the most sought-after fruit in the region, with specific varieties such as ‘Čačanska rodna’, ‘Čačanska lepotica’, ‘Stanley’, and ‘Nada’ seeing high demand. There is also a renewed interest in apricot and quince following previous years of frost damage, while interest in the pear variety ‘Viljamovka’ is increasing due to its use in brandy production.
Experts advise growers to carefully select varieties and high-quality planting material, while paying close attention to soil preparation to ensure successful orchard establishment.
