Institute of Public Health issues STI prevention guidance

The Institute of Public Health has issued guidance regarding the prevention and recognition of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The institute emphasizes that STIs, which can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms, are often transmitted through unprotected sexual contact.

Health officials warned that while some infections present clear symptoms, others may remain undetected for long periods. Untreated STIs can lead to serious health complications, including reproductive organ inflammation, fertility issues, pregnancy complications, and an increased risk of certain cancers.

To reduce risks, the institute recommends the consistent use of condoms, regular testing—particularly for those with multiple or new partners—and vaccination against HPV and Hepatitis B. They also advise against using antibiotics or other medications without a doctor's recommendation to avoid complications and drug resistance. Symptoms requiring medical attention include unusual discharge, pain during urination, genital pain, or changes to the skin and mucous membranes.
