Institutional investors boost Coinbase stake as Ark rebalances crypto holdings

Aptus Capital Advisors LLC reported a significant increase in its Coinbase (COIN) holdings, purchasing an additional 22,135 shares in the fourth quarter to bring its total to 23,343 shares valued at approximately $5.3 million. The filing highlighted that institutional investors now own about 68.8 % of Coinbase’s outstanding stock.

Meanwhile, Ark Invest, led by Cathie Wood, disclosed a contrasting trade: it bought roughly $18 million of Coinbase shares while selling about $29 million of Robinhood stock. The move came as Coinbase fell 2.6 % to $164.92, whereas Robinhood rose 8.8 %. Ark’s rebalancing reflects a strategic shift toward the pure‑play crypto exchange, which accounts for around 3.8 % of its ETFs, versus the broader brokerage exposure of Robinhood.

Both actions illustrate ongoing institutional scrutiny of crypto‑linked equities, with investors adjusting positions in response to market volatility and Bitcoin price movements that directly affect Coinbase’s revenue.
